Events at the Kenmore Highland Games<\/p>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The Games commence around 4.30 with the Junior<\/span><\/strong> Heavies<\/strong> competition in the Main Arena.<\/span>\u00a0 Their competition includes Putting the Shot, Weight for distance, Throwing the Hammer and Tossing the Caber.
<\/span><\/p>

Highland Dancing. <\/span><\/strong>C<\/span>ommences on the Dance Stage around 5.30 p.m.<\/span> and is organised by Jean Swanston.\u00a0 Dancers of all ages perform to impress the judges – and the audience!

6.00 p.m. The Vale of Atholl Pipe Band<\/strong> opens the games with a parade and address by the President of Kenmore Highland Games, Robin Menzies.\u00a0 The Band will play and march throughout the evening.\u00a0 Marching and playing is a challenging skill to master but the Band are masters and a visual and musical treat!\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The Heavy Events. <\/strong>\u00a0Putting the Shot 16lbs (7.25kg) , Throwing the Hammer 16lb (7,25kg), Over the bar 56lbs (25.4kg), Weight for Distance (28lbs (12.7kg) Tossing the Caber, and Tossing the Sheaf.<\/span><\/p>

Plus, see these remarkable athletes compete in the Heavy Weight event unique to Kenmore, Throwing the Tirinie Stone<\/strong> – an almost spherical stone found on Tirinie Farm, Kenmore. Competitors battle to beat the record throw of 183 inches (464 cm).<\/span><\/p>

The Tirinie Stone weighs around 101lbs (46kgs).<\/span><\/p>

Piping competitions. <\/strong>Pipers young and always young compete. Bagpipes are among the most difficult instruments to play. They depend on air control and the ability to play the right notes as you blow and squeeze.\u00a0 The competition takes place at the far end of the ground so please wander down to see these remarkable musicians compete which is a\u00a0 spectacle in itself!\u00a0\u00a0

Races<\/strong> – open to all.\u00a0 <\/span><\/b>The races will start with the Heats for Open Races.\u00a0 The Schedule will be displayed on a notice board at the Registration Tent and in the programme so please look out as this year’s order is different from that of previous years.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

The races will still include 90m, 800m 400m, boys and girls races and the not to be missed Sack Race for children! The culmination of the evenings track events is the Kenmore Hill Race –\u00a0enough to test the endurance of the best runners.\u00a0 Competitors run up and down Kenmore Hill, approx 5.5 miles\/8.8 Km.<\/span><\/p>

Tug of War Competition.\u00a0<\/strong> Everyone loves the Tug of War Competition which is the last event of the evening, although the Heavies will still be hauling stuff around!\u00a0 Watch the thrilling end of our Games and cheer on your favourite teams!\u00a0
<\/span><\/p>

Medals and cash prizes are awarded to the winners of all competitions on the evening.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>

The games officially open at 6 pm but the competition starts at 4.30 pm with the Junior Heavies.\u00a0<\/span><\/strong>

Food, beverages, a licensed bar, gift stands and lots of fun activities for children all feature in this evening of entertainment for the whole family.\u00a0 Dogs on leads are welcome.<\/span><\/strong>
